Prepare before requesting closure
Account closure requests are typically only processed once the account is in a clean state. Before contacting the broker, review your holdings and decide whether each position should be sold or, where the broker supports it, transferred elsewhere. Selling creates potential tax events, so long-term investors should think carefully about timing and record the cost basis of anything they dispose of. Also check whether any pending deposits, dividends or corporate actions are due to land in the account, since these can delay closure or leave stranded cash.
- List every open position and decide whether to sell it or ask eToro whether a transfer option exists for your account type.
- Check eToro's documents for any conditions attached to closure, such as required minimum activity, verification steps or notice periods.
- Confirm whether pending dividends, interest or corporate actions are expected before you submit the request.
- Note any subscription-style features or recurring payments linked to the account and cancel them separately if needed.
