After hours trading is a good strategy for trading stocks outside of normal US stock market hours of 9:30am to 4pm EST (New York Time).

When you buy stocks during after hours, you are able to act on breaking news updates such as earnings releases, press releases, major insider trades.

Of course, there is usually a lot less volume during after hours trading so expect the bid and ask prices to be a lot larger than during normal market hours.

You cannot execute market trades during after hours and must set a limit order if you want to buy stocks.
