AdBrite Sent Me a Check for 8 Cents
Hey AdBrite, how are your profitability margins doing? In Mid-March 2007, Adbrite sent me a check for a whopping 8 cents. While most third party advertisers have minimum payout amounts to maximize their revenue, AdBrite would rather lose money than make it. Adbrite makes 25% of your ad revenue, which means Adbrite made only 2 cents from my short tenure as a publisher ( .75/1 = 8/X, X= 10.66, 10.66 - 8 = AdBrite’s Cut: 2.66 cents). Add on the expense of 39 cents for postage, and Adbrite spent 37 cents to pay me 8 cents!
The funny thing is I stopped using their ad system months ago. I even took a picture of the check as proof. Click the thumbnail below to view the full image.

I’m sure the stock paper for the check and envelope costs more than 2 cents. Should I take it to the bank or will the bank teller laugh at me?

Haha. I don’t know if it was kind or stupid.
Also, I noticed they printed the check on January 25th. I wonder why it took so long to arrive?

At first I thought it was a joke too.
But if they were willing to spend the money to send you even that little, you must have meant alot to them.

I’ve been using adbrite for a while. There is an option to put a hold on the check until it reaches certain amounts.
Its pretty stupid that they would process a check for .08.

I don’t know…may have been a good move on their part. You blogged about it and placed a link to their site. That’s a pretty damn good return on the cost of a stamp since advertising would be a lot more.

Savings Advice - You think the check was link bait? I didn’t even consider that option. Well, it was definitely a good ROI as far as SERPs are concerned. But why not buy a review from me like normal people do?
March 17th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
No, I don’t think it was specifically sent out as link bait, but it ended up being a good move on their part - why pay $100 for a link when you can get it for $0.39 - plus is doesn’t get marked as a paid link or advertising. I just meant that even though it may have been a bad move when it was done, it has actually turned out to be a good investment for them.

I received a check for $4 last year from Adbrite, why don’t they have a minimum payout like nearly every other ad company out there.

Does anyone have a good replacement for Adbrite? I am currently running their ads in
the header and left column of my blog. The ads do not pay very well. I make a lot
more money with Chitika than with Adbrite. Any suggestions for an Adbrite
replacement.
Thanks!

ElectroGeek, maybe you can have a look at http://www.kumomo.com. A newly launched ad space
Maybe you should pay a visit to kumomo.com for more details
marketplace which allow you to sell your space for free. They are using booking
concept where your space might be booked for coming months. Besides, you are helping
charity too. Yes, you do not see wrongly. Sell space and help charity. For
advertiser to secure the space through booking, they need to pay 1% of the ad price
as booking fee. This 1% will be donated to charity. Of course you are allowed to
donate all too

Very cool site. Have you had any success with them?
April 3rd, 2007 at 7:56 pm
Not yet, since it is a newly launch site, maybe I should give it some more time

I added the rel=”nofollow” tag to the link. Adbrite won’t be receiving any Google juice from me!

You know you can set the minimum payout to whatever you want so you don’t get checks for 8 cents anymore. Also you can ad your own ads and set your own pricing so that if they aren’t paying you what you want your ads will run instead. Try it out.

I’m pretty sure it’s against Google Adsense TOS to run two similar contextual ad services on the same site. Do you run both advertising systems on your blog?
April 18th, 2007 at 1:35 pm
I don’t run Adsense so it’s not an issue. My checks are bigger than 8 cents with Adbrite but the payouts on Adbrite on a cpc basis really stink. I just pulled my Adbrite header banner off a few minutes ago. I’m sure it wonlt be long before I pull the left sidebar banner as well. The auto approved ads are not relevant to my content so the click thru ratios are crap! Do you or anyone else use shopping.com? So far Chtika has been my best earner. Still waiting for YPN to open the doors to their program.

I didn’t even know Shopping.com had an affiliate program.
Since your site is product focused, Your blog would do well with direct purchase ads, so stray away from contextual ad networks like Adsense, Adbrite, Kontera, etc. Here’s what I would recommend: AuctionAds , Buy.com affiliates, Commission Junction, or Amazon Affiliates.
Also play around with direct affiliate links to Amazon.com’s marketplace. For example, Linking directly to the Amazon product page in your Nokia 8800 Sirocco gold review would be a good idea.
Sign up for all these programs, and work to optimize your ad placement. Let me know how things go!

Thanks for the tips TJP.
I use CJ.com and Amazon.com already however they have not worked that great. I used to make thousands with CJ with eBay’s program without a website however when they changed their payouts to virtually nil I stopped promoting them. This was 2 years ago and things were different back then. Things have changed and the game is a bit different. Concerning auction ads, I would imagine placing CJ-eBay ads would achieve the same result. I may give shopping.com a try. It would make sense that you should make more as a direct shopping.com affiliate rather than with Chitika since Chitika is using Shopping.com’s engine. We will see. Thanks!

I wouldn’t be surprised if they did this because they had to clear their books. Plus they may have saved more money in taxes by sending you that, seeing how it was a loss.
